Besides animal-depictions, standing on eggs, there's a typology of animals in a micro-landscape. Again the elephant is one of the animals, which occurs regularly in this typology.
Below some photos of a sculpture (L.4,4cm; B.3,8 cm) with a little elephant behind. It's a quartz stone with pyrite-crystal-inclusions (hexahedrons), which leave impressions in the stone when they fall out. This kind of stone comes originally from the High Ardens and the Eifel. These inclusions were used in many sculptures, among which this little elephant with the eye-item. With a particular light the eye will glitter, for instance in moonlight. According to me one used these impressions intentionally.
